ARTIST STATEMENT As both
a book artist and painter, I'm interested in ways the two media can interconnect
to create an experience like the one I get when I'm reading
a really good book.
I love to get lost Though there is little or no text in this collection of artist books and paintings, an implied narrative joins each painting and "echo" book or box, as well as the series as a whole. Usually the work starts on paper, with drawings and holes punched into
paper. Then I make the painting. When you view the painting from up close
as you pick up and examine the "echo" book or box displayed below, your
physical relationship to the painting changes. I becomes intimate, like
the relationship between a reader and a book. The painting, reframed as
